Completed Projects

Education Key :

We have started working on bringing all children in the main stream of education. The dropout rate of the girls at the secondary level is very high due to the unavailability of secondary schools in the same villages and poor transportation facilities. The girls need to walk all the way to reach to the school. The organization supported these girls through bicycle bank program by providing bicycles to continue their schooling. At present the organization has 452 bicycles in the bank. The girls completed her 10th std. returns the bicycle back to the organization this is then handed over to the new needy & likely to dropout girl. So this is the ongoing process helping girls to continue their education. Similarly we have started the hostels for children of migrant families to stay back for continuing their education. At present the project area has 6 hostels to facilitate about 120 children since 3 years. The parents of girl child are not ready to keep their girls in the hostels. We have talk to the parents for the other alternative for keeping the girls ensuring their safety for their education. The parents agreed to keep these girls with their grand parents or neighbours. To ensure their studies we have supported them by foster parenting this is the additional intervention of the organization during the year. During this we have encouraged the schools to take the students for the exposure tour. The tour must be for the innovative places and a good exposure to the students like factories, industries, Agricultural school, milk centres or science centres. Every year we are supporting all 10 schools in the project area to facilitate about 300 students. The teachers in the project area are also not having good teaching skills, knowledge & exposure. Similarly we have started Balwadis for the children of remote areas under the educational facilities. The project area has 6 balwadis for the children under remote places cant afford to go to the existing Anganwadis due to many reasons. Since 2 years through this activity we have able to bring 150 children of age group 2 3 years under the main stream of Pre-schooling.Educational key

The use of gray water for plantation is also suggested to them. In summer season when there is scarcity of drinking water the use of gray water is found very helpful for the participants. Due to this they are able to get the vegetables to serve their family at least. We have 225 participants so far in the project. When we found that the participants dont know the variety of dishes to serve the family especially to attract children to get nutritious diet & green vegetables. Self help group :

selfprogramme Yerala Projects Society has started SHG formation & linkage program with the help of NABARD in Apr 2008. Women SHGs play an important role in the developmental process of the villages around Jalihal. Over the years these groups have become responsible and have understood the importance of development process. Almost all the programs which are being implemented by YPS are implemented with the involvement of SHGs. YPS kept the target of completing 100 SHGs within three years. So far we have been instrumental in forming and capacity building of 86 SHGs. Among those SHGs 77 has linked with the banks. They are doing regular savings and also helping each other. Most of the groups have received soft loans from the banks after gradation conducted by YPS. Further they are providing credits to their members to take up income generating activities. So far we have 8 credit linkages formed.

Nursery and demonstration:

YPS has developed agriculture demonstration unit at Jalihal. Every year 3-4 new varieties of seeds which are suitable for the agro-climatic condition of the area are procured from the market and demonstration is carried out. During the demonstration, farmers visit the demo plot and witness the developments. All the information is shared with the farmers. The main purpose of carrying out demonstrations is to eliminate the risk of farmers. Once the results of particular seed are obtained , farmers can choose which seed suits them.
